MAke a Word Search Jr. |
This website allows you to make your own word searches. It allows you to type in your own 10 words, and then comes up with word searches for you. This website would be great to use for your child's spelling words after they have become familiar with them in the least. The feature of being able to add your own words is great because you can have your child working on the words that he or she needs more help with. http://www.abcya.com/word_search_jr.htm |
SPELLING PRACTICE DOLCH WORD LIST |
This website also works on spelling for your child. In this screen, your child would have to unscramble the word, and drag the letters to the correct boxes so it would spell the word 'then.' This website picks up where the previous lacked, because it makes the child recognize the word, and then spell it correctly. Your child would be able to play this game on his or her own because it self checks and tells you whether or not you were right. http://www.abcya.com/dolch_sight_word_spelling.htm |
KEYBOARDING ZOO LEARN THE ALPHABET & KEYBOARD |
The Keyboarding Zoo website is great for the children who still have a little trouble recognizing letters. It also works on their computer skills because they have to recognize the letter, and then find it on the keyboard and type it. This is the beginning of keyboarding skills for your child, and promotes literacy at the same time.

SPANISH WORD BINGO
|
There are two versions of this website. I chose to put the Spanish version for the children who don't speak English as their first language. This version has a feature in it that asks you if you want it to be given the Spanish and you have to match it with the English, or given the English and provide the Spanish. It a great way to get some extra practice in for children speaking more than one language because they already have twice as much work to do to be able to understand the second language. http://www.abcya.com/spanish_word_bingo.htm |
HENRY AND THE SUGARBUGS
|
This website is a book that was put online for your child to page through and read. In the beginning of the book, the text is pretty easy and there aren't a huge amount of words, but about in the middle of the book it starts to pick up. The sentences become much longer and the words aren't only limited to sight words. There is a feature to have the children hear the words in the story for when they become stuck and don't know what to do. This allows them to read independently, and still have some help without someone telling him or her everything.
